Postscript to my original entry dated 14 January:
After a flood of complaints about Subway moving into property in the centre of town, the town's administrators offered the fast food chain an alternative location in the "Insel" shopping centre. Subway weren't too enamoured by this and have now announced that their new restaurant will be Lörrach instead. I don't think many people in Weil will be losing sleep over this snub.
